Georges Adeagbo
Le Dieu - createur dans la creation
January 14 - March 4, 2005

Georges Adeagbo is a collector. He has been claimed as one of West Afrika's foremost artists ever since his contribution to the documenta in 2002. Following of his 'discovery' in 1993 by a French art agent, this autodidacts installations have been exhibited in Europe, the two Americas, and even Japan. For more than thirty years he has been collecting books, fabrics, pictures and all manner of lucky finds, piecing them together to form large installations

His works tackle such objects as cannibalism, slavery, socialism, religion, war, art ect.
In Adeagbo´s installations of memories we recognize the 'Other', which make always part of ourself and therefore can't fit in the system.

For his first show in our Gallery, the Benin based artist (* 1942 in Cotonou, where he still lives and works), pieced together a hundred of objects in LE DIEU-CREATEUR DANS LA CREATION, I and II.

The two installations were first shown in Cologne, one at our booth at ART Cologne and the other one at Rheinschau. In our current show the 2 works became one. Together with a hundred of new finds from the local area, references to Zurich, expanded the former situation of the two different small installations into a wide, spaceful open work, where the viewers has to act as an explorer.
