Claudia Wieser

Portraits, Installation view at SCHAU ORT, Dec 2010 - Feb 2011
Claudia Wieser was born in 1973 in Germany, and currently lives and works in Berlin. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout Germany and Europe, including THE DRAWING CENTER New York; Kunstverein Oldenburg; Kunstverein Wolfsburg; Lenbachhaus Munich; Kunstverein Munich; and ParisProject Room, Paris, among others.

Claudia Wieser’s faded environments of photocopied wallpaper and her geometric compositions on found photos are rooted in German Romanticism, Russian Suprematism, and German Expressionist film-à-la-Caligari. Her appropriation of twentieth-century travel photographs, overlaid with simple lines and shapes, conflates allegorical landscape painting and the pure geometry of Constructivist design.
