Schaufenster, literally "look window", is the German word for shop window. This SCHAU FENSTER aims to be a window into other galleries, ateliers, academies, and curator brains around the globe. Further insights coming up!

Currently, our SCHAU FENSTER presents an insight into Galerie Eva Winkeler (Frankfurt / Cologne) with an installation by JO DICKREITER. We are thrilled that Jo created this installation especially for our window space. Come, look and listen - music by Johnny Guitar & The Mad Max every evening from 8pm to midnight in front of the window! Or ONLINEat anytime. Also: great drawings by Jo Dickreiter available at the gallery - preview here.
The German artist Jo Dickreiter (*1969) studied at Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig as a master student of Walter Dahn. Dickreiter is not only known for his ironic doodle-like drawings depicting elements of Wild West romanticism mixed with German folk myths, but also for his wooden constructions. These installations of tinkered-together found objects and miscellaneous wooden junk material are reminiscent of mountain lodges, garden gazebos, or even simple outhouses. Jo Dickreiter describes these constructional interventions as zones of autonomy. Dickreiter, also a musician in his own right, often employs song titles, snatches of lyrics, or music itself in his works. In his installations and drawings feelings like home-sickness, nostalgia, and "Fernweh" (yearning for distant places) are blended into an overall sensation of diffuse longing. Dickreiter thus describes our tragic attempt to overcome the limits of individual freedom by glorifying alternatives that are not really available to us.
